Dam Neck was established in 1941 as an anti-aircraft gunnery range to train fleet personnel in the operation of 20 mm and 40 mm anti-aircraft guns. The base is home to the Fleet Combat Directions Systems Activity, which is responsible for planning, developing, testing and delivering computer programs for shipboard combat direction systems.
